Tiffany and John
Our Wedding Date is May 28, 2005

How They Met

John first noticed Tiffany at a fraternity party, and thought she was one of the prettiest girls he had ever seen. When Tiffany first saw John at the same party, she thought he was very handsome and decided she would wait around all night for a chance to talk to him. Finally, they sat down at a table together outside, under the stars.

The two soon erupted into a political debate, which ended not too long after it began, with John as the clear winner (not from Tiffany's perspective, of course). It took more than a year of countless philosophical debates and a strong friendship to develop before John finally asked Tiffany out on a date to the Hard Times Café in January of 2003.

The Proposal

An accomplished storyteller, the proposal is one of John's favorite subjects. He's gotten more than one young female to shed a tear as he's shared the story at parties.

November 21, 2003. Just before Thanksgiving John drove up to Washington, D.C., so that he and Tiffany could fly to Chicago for the holiday. He told Tiffany that he wanted to take her to dinner at any restaurant of her choosing. Slightly suspicious, Tiffany chose a fun open-grill style restaurant in Bethesda. His plans for an elegant proposal in a fancy restaurant foiled, John suggested a romantic stroll around the United States Capitol and some of the monuments. As they arrived downtown, a light rain began to fall. Not caring about the rain, they proceeded toward the Capitol, hand in hand. When the rain turned to a pelt, and thunder began to rumble, they were forced to abandon their plans and dash for cover.

The first awning they came to was outside of a cute little French restaurant called La Coline, in downtown Washington, D.C. They tried for a few minutes to wait out the storm, but the rain only came down harder. His plans twice thwarted, John took Tiffany's cold, rain soaked hands in his as he knelt on the sidewalk. He looked up at her and told her that he didn't care if it was pouring rain, there wasn't going to be a better time to ask her to marry him. Of course she said yes! As Tiffany tried to keep her cheeks from going numb with smiles, the owner of the restaurant poked his head around the doorway and gestured them inside for a glass of champagne on the house. In a heavy French accent he asked, "You have something to celebrate, no?"
